A gantry crane is industrial lifting equipment designed to move heavy loads. It consists of two vertical legs (full gantry crane) or a single vertical leg (semi-gantry crane) and a horizontal beam. This structure enables the hoist to move along the crossbeam to lift and transport loads. It usually runs on rails fixed to the ground.
Industrial gantry cranes include full gantry cranes and semi-gantry cranes. There are also similar devices, such as port cranes for loading and unloading ships, and rubber-tired gantry cranes, also widely used in ports. For occasional or temporary work, there are portable or adjustable gantry cranes.
These have the same functionality as overhead cranes, but are configured with two legs. The rails are located at ground level, usually fixed to a concrete slab, concrete foundation or specially designed steel girders.

Semi-gantry cranes are configured with a single leg. The first rail is positioned high up on the structure, and the second rail is positioned at floor level.
