Load testing for overhead cranes and lifting equipment

Premium Industrial Group performs load tests on overhead cranes and other lifting equipment installed by our teams, in accordance with the requirements of CSA B167-26 .This standard is a benchmark in Canada for ensuring the safety and reliability of lifting equipment.
 

 

What do we do during load testing?

We test cranes and lifting equipment by lifting loads equivalent to 100% and 125% of their maximum capacity, to identify major mechanical faults, design flaws or other unforeseen conditions. These tests enable us to verify that the equipment can operate safely, even under maximum load conditions.
 

 

When should a load test be carried out?

Before commissioning a new hoist, or after relocation or major work. These tests must be carried out with care and do not replace periodic inspections. For equipment not manufactured by Premium Industrial Group, it is necessary to have engineering drawings confirming capacity before testing. Test report

Once testing is complete, we issue a report detailing the test results. This report should be kept in the equipment logbook for future reference.
 

 

Weight and scale rental

In addition to installation, we offer a weight and balance rental service for your load tests. This option enables you to carry out tests in complete safety, without having to search for equipment or manage an additional subcontractor.

Frequently Asked Questions About Load Testing

Does the load test report need to be stamped by an engineer?
No. CSA B167 does not require a stamp. Instead, the test must be supervised by an engineer or another competent person, meaning someone qualified, trained and experienced for this work. A test report is then provided for the equipment's logbook.

When is a load test required?
Under CSA B167, a load test must be performed before use on any new, reinstalled (after a relocation, for example) or modified overhead crane or hoist.

Is a new load test required after a repair?
Not necessarily. After the repair or replacement of a critical component, the test may be limited to the affected functions, as determined by an engineer or competent person. A load test is generally not required after basic maintenance or minor repairs.

Can you load test an existing overhead crane?
Yes, when the technical file allows it. Start by gathering two things: the original drawings and the most recent inspection report. Does a load test make my overhead crane compliant?
