Machinex: Mastery of tandem lifting

Machinex, world leader in the manufacture and installation of material recovery systems, uses STAHL hoists for tandem lifting and transporting screening drums weighing up to 30,000 kg.

Plessisville-based, Machinex is renowned for its high-quality recycling equipment. Among these, the MACH Trommel is a key component of modern recycling plants. In 2019, Machinex inaugurated a new plant equipped with overhead cranes manufactured by Premium Industrial Group, incorporating STAHL hoist technology.

The challenges of lifting heavy and massive loads

The challenges of lifting heavy and massive loads, such as MACH drums, which can weigh up to 30,000 kg and measure up to 15.3 m in length, require high stability. This is especially critical when loading these components onto trailers for delivery to the installation site. In the past, we had to rent cranes to perform this task.

Tandem lifting: an efficient solution for Machinex

To meet these challenges, Machinex uses two wire rope hoists with individual capacities of 10,000 kg, mounted on two top-running overhead cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 20,000 kg. The four hoists can be used individually or in tandem, ensuring perfect synchronization and enhanced safety. The wireless control system allows a single operator to control both overhead cranes, facilitating lifting operations and ensuring smooth movement of this oversized equipment.

Successful collaboration for the benefit of recycling

Thanks to this configuration, Machinex can handle different material flows in a single system, improving the efficiency of its lifting operations. This long-standing collaboration has led to the development of customized, safe lifting solutions.

” We usually had a traditional crane come out to pick up the baler and set it on transport. Now, we are saving a lot of time because we just pick it up with those two overhead cranes, set it on transport, and it’s off to our client’s facility. “
