Spectra Premium’s challenges

Before implementing this solution, Spectra Premium faced several obstacles in their lifting operations :

    1. Limited coordination between overhead cranes : The requirement was to install two overhead cranes, each with a capacity of 32,000 kg, on the same structure. To reduce project costs, it was decided to space the overhead cranes apart to avoid overloading the structure.
    2. Operational restrictions : The overhead cranes had to be spaced between 35 and 42 feet apart at all times, limiting their flexibility of use.
    3. Risk of structural overloading : For operations requiring the overhead cranes to be moved closer together, workers faced an increased risk of overloading, jeopardizing the safety of the structure and equipment.

The solution : Intelligent load management between overhead cranes

To tackle these challenges, an intelligent load management solution was deployed. This system is based on technologies such as :

      1. IoT sensors for real-time monitoring of overhead crane positions and the weight of loads being lifted.
      2. Optimization algorithms to evaluate loads dynamically as overhead cranes move along the runway track.
      3. Intuitive use allowing overhead crane operators to concentrate on lifting operations without having to constantly calculate load weights.

This project was designed and implemented in close collaboration with the Spectra Premium team, taking into account the particularities of their infrastructures and their safety objectives.

Results at Spectra Premium

Thanks to this innovation, Spectra Premium has achieved significant results :

        1. Lower acquisition costs : Significant reduction in the cost of foundations and the structure supporting the overhead cranes.
        2. Increased safety : Reduced risk of overloading.
        3. Improved decision-making : Enabling overhead crane operators to secure lifting operations.
