Éric Cyr is the Engineering Manager at Premium, specializing in the design of custom lifting equipment. A mechanical engineer who graduated from Polytechnique Montréal in 1996, he holds a master’s degree in engineering management from Université de Sherbrooke and is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), and Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). The result is equipment designed to last and adapted to the realities of your operations.

Éric has worked in custom lifting equipment since 1999. He began his career at COH, calculating and designing equipment for a range of industries: hydroelectricity, steel storage, automotive, cement plants, and paper mills. In 2006, he co-founded iCrane Systems, which became affiliated with Groupe LAR in 2008, and led engineering on hydroelectric projects for Hydro-Québec power stations and spillways. He later held senior mechanical engineer roles at COH and then within Groupe LAR before joining Premium to build and structure the mechanical engineering department.

Overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and fixed winches: Éric has designed this equipment for leading clients in the energy sector. Because he has also inspected end-of-life equipment, he designs with real-world wear in mind, helping you avoid costly surprises during operation.

Technical rigour that supports your projects

Known for his team spirit, work ethic, and ability to solve complex problems, Éric bases his designs on strong calculation expertise and specialized tools, including SAFI finite element analysis software for modelling overhead crane and gantry crane structures, and Mathcad for his other calculations.

His solid understanding of the main lifting standards, including CSA, CMAA, ASME, and AIST, helps ensure equipment that is compliant, safe, and free of regulatory blind spots. Before any design work begins, he takes the time to fully understand your needs and asks the right questions to gather all relevant data. His direct, unambiguous communication, combined with his belief that collaboration between departments makes the difference, supports a smooth project from quotation to production.

Behind-the-scenes

An outdoor enthusiast, Éric enjoys camping and hiking in the Laurentians. A dedicated runner, he brings the same endurance to the track as he does to the drafting table. 🏃‍♂️
